Favorite Madlib-Produced Albums

What are some of your standout Madlib produced albums? I'm not talking singles, I'm talking full-length projects.

I'll rattle off a couple (in no particular order):

A Lil light

Madvillain (obv.)

Liberation (underrated imo)

Everything Quasimoto

Champion Sound

Shit I feel like I'm forgetting some. Anyway that's what the thread is for. Share some of yours...

I guess I should have specified: I kind of meant rap albums. We all know he's got beats and jazz and weird experimental stuff for days. I was interested in putting a spotlight on Madlib in the executive producer role, inspired by what could have been with the recent Kanye album.

Never felt like an album to me. Seemed like Kweli got Madlib beats, rapped on them in a day or two, them put them out, random order. This came out as a free download, so it wouldn't surprise me if it was just like that.

"Funny Money" was always a standout track though.

Aren't most, if not all, collaborations (not credited to Lootpack or Madvillain) Madlib's done just like that though? Beat CD's basically espousing his being. To my knowledge, Liberation was initially made available for free (pre physical releases) but then stamped with a bar code for CDs and vinyl.

They've definitely met and have (had) a relationship of some kind; they hosted Rap City together many, many years ago.

The Unseen is my favorite Madlib album and I'd probably say my favorite album of all time (at least it is in top three with Paul's Boutique and Liquid Swords).

I've never heard a bad Madlib produced album, some underrated ones I think are Strong Arm Steady's, Georgia Anne Muldrow's Seeds, and the Dudley Perkins albums. I think most folks around STMB are familiar, it's not underrated but if you talk about Madlib to most people it's Madvillain, Pinata, Jaylib, and Quas.

Oh yeah, def don't get me wrong MV is a masterpiece, especially as a result of Madlib's production imo (Like, I feel Madlib had more of an impact on that record than DOOM for myself, but both are fantastic of course).

Most people prob don't agree, but I always thought MV was "nearly" perfect, with Hardcore Hustle being a somewhat weak track in comparison to the rest of the record. Comparing this to The Unseen and there wasn't a single track that I would skip, everything is perfect to me on that one. I'd prob still say Madlib's top three produced albums imo would be Unseen>MV>Pinata.

Edit:

really love what Madlib has done w/ Erykah Badu. Wouldn't mind seeing a Badu project produced entirely by he.

This would be sweet

well what's the list of full non-instrumental albums exclusively Madlib?

The Unseen

Further Adventures

Madvillainy

Madvillainy 2

In Search of Stoney Jackson

Yessir Whatever

Soundpieces

Liberation

A Lil Light

Nittyville...

Perseverance

Perseverance the remix

OJ Simpson

Seeds

Pinata

Bad Neighbor

I didn't think about WLIB... But yeah I guess if we're including that then Medicine Show #11 (and maybe also 12, 13) should be included.

the more forgettable ones for me are probably Liberation, Seeds, Perseverance remixes, Nittyville, WLIB. Bad Neighbor needs to age more to tell. The rest are like all unequivocal classics! MS#11, even though I don't love all the rapping on it, I think holds up production wise to a lot of his best stuff.

But I'd have to agree- Madvillainy is tops, Unseen is very close, Piñata is surprisingly high on the list, definitely top 5

Nice, this is what I was looking for. I also think Push Comes to Shove by M.E.D. qualifies, as it's made up entirely of Madlib, J Dilla (at a time when he was heavily listening to Madlib), and Oh No beats.

edit: And, for that matter, Jaylib.

A significant portion of MED's Classic was Madlib as well.

Some of the not-so-obvious ones for me that got heavy rotation when they came out:

Stoney Jackson

Push Comes To Shove

Perseverance

FIRST OF ALL NEWBIE

low budget hi fi and the remixes were mentioned. bad neighbor too... so check yourself!

andsoitissaid also features production by people other than madlib, so not entirely germane to the discussion of full length madlib production
