DOOM

Recommended Posts

When I first received born like this I said to myself "this is not the doom album I wanted". But as it turned out it was the doom album I needed. I'd say it's easily DOOM's most inaccessible album, sure, but if you invest the time and brain power required it's a very rewarding one, very deep and dark. I have no doubt he put just as much effort and thought into BLT as any of his other albums.

there was a four year gap between TM&TM and BLT, and now it's been over 3 years since BLT. rumors of JJ DOOM date back... two years at the most? King Geedorah 2 is definitely not anything more than a concept in his metal dome. If he's been putting over 7 years worth of his best material into MV2 and S&C they might melt our brains if we ever hear them.

S&C is destined for the same fate as the Mr. Fantastick collaboration album. Neither will ever be made.

I put BLT in the ride a couple months ago and just let it stay on until I had listened to it about 30 times and all I could keep asking myself was 'Why all the hate?!?!'

imagine if they actually even still called it swift & changeable at this point... the name feels dated and it's not even done. I look back on my joy over 'victory laps' with a cynical head-shake.

Key to the Kuffs (KTTK) though... gonna be good. august. maybe. hope lex holds up their standard of classy LP's/art. BLT on vinyl has great design. I remember it did however take like 6 months past the release date for me to get it despite having preordered.

Oh man I'm so glad that Retarded Fren made the album. It's gotta be same the version that DOOM played during his DJ set last year at the Boiler Room which was one of the better songs by him I've heard in a few years.

Also be good to hear another (the original?) version of Rhymin Slang. Like the verses but never quiet liked the beat on the remix that was released.

At first the artwork looked like something Jason Jagel had done but it seems it's by Steve Powers (ESPO). Didn't know about him but sure I've seen his stuff before:

huh so beth gibbons and damon albarn are not on the same track.

judging this book by its cover/table of contents, lovin it already. some track names with great potential (bite the thong ft. damon albarn yesss)

Wow, looking at ACTUAL album art for a forthcoming DOOM album... brings me back to '08 when I was scratching my head about the Born Like This cover... art looks great/classy, ESPO is awesome, love his mural work.

this does seem to be DOOM's "got kicked out of US" album, doesn't it? Wonder if it'll be 2xlp... regardless, ready to hop on that LP pre-order the second it pops up!

and they've been pretty damn clever about not leaking. Heard 5 songs out of 15, but 2 of those were search-intensive and 2 of them are remixes, so they'll be fresh as hell on the album.

ALL IN ALL THIS IS HUGE

Not sure if I like the cover. But at least judging from the tracks I've heard, I agree, this is gonna be dope as fuck.

I love it tbh. Love the minimal effect and the fact that each item will reflect a song title or one of the dopest lines from the record (thought that would be right up your street Mach...considering your lyric work in the past). Wonder what items will be on the back cover :)

sounds super strange! beats are crazy, very new style for the villain.

I didn't even think about the JJ Jameson-sample skit potential!

and who is that spittin on Dawg Friendly, hoggin up the whole sample? Jneiro Jarel?

At 42 min. it's (imo) a pretty standard length for a DOOM album, it's longer than born like this, longer than mouse and the mask... kinda just short enough to leave you craving more more more.

Yeah that J Jonah Jamieson link in is pretty dope :) & yeah 42 mins sounds about right tbh...look at Madvillain.

Fairly sure it must be Jarel as he would want a verse on his own record, just like madlib/quas on MV.

Out of all the tracks there are zero I am worried about not liking. And a few that sound re-dick-yoo-luss :-)

The samples make this LP sound pretty promising, colour me excited. DOOM's voice is sounding really nice.

The snippets are really dope, I'm totally hyped for this album now. The album version of Rhymin Slang sounds awesome, wasn't the biggest fan of the remix either. Wash Your Hands sounds like it may be the best track on there, or at least one of the best ones. I think that track will stand among his best material. Aug 21st can't come soon enough!

Yeah that's definitely JJ on Dawg Friendly. Hope DOOM gets a verse in on that one, the beat would fit him just right.

Retarded Fren for me. Heard it on the boiler room show first and listened a few times on youtube, but had to stop as i felt i would spoil it...Thought it was a Madvillainz track at first too, lol. Amped for this release !!

The Dave Stiek remix took a minute to grow on me. Retarded Fren sounds 1000x better, the Thom Yorke version sounded completely incongruous to DOOM's verse, way slower than that verse should be delivered. I for one could do without that particular rumored collab based on what we've heard from doomyorke so far. Not that the beat was that bad, but damn did it not come off.

I'm really hoping viberian sun pt. II isn't just an instrumental, I would love to hear DOOM on that beat, and seeing as it's over 3 min probably a possibility.

The more I listen to the snippets the more of a Vaudeville Villain vibe I get from the beats.

Co-sign everything you both just said. Esp the VV vibe. I'm guessing Viberian Sun II will be an instro since pt 1 was. Hopefully not.
