  1. 'Heaven' feat. Sol

Sampled a Jackie Chan soul record from the 60s and got my old friend Sol to jump on it. Works as a lo-fi loosie. Would love for y'all to check it out.
  2. DJ FLYRT - City Beats

I know it doesn't look great if you're replying to your own thread, but I'd still love some feedback on this. If there any MCs in here looking for instrumentals and like what they hear, I'd love to work something out, too.
  3. DJ FLYRT - City Beats

Appreciate it, sir. I've been very much inspired lately by producers like Andres, who use samples and MPCs to create dance music. I'll be sure to check out your work as well!
  4. DJ FLYRT - City Beats

NEW TAPE. Thanks for listening, as always. Any feedback -- positive or negative -- much appreciated.
  5. Samiyam - Animals Have Feelings

  6. Article on sample dealer Gene Brown

Thought you guys might like this one. I interviewed Gene Brown, a 42-year-old digger in North Carolina who sells samples to big-namers like Q-Tip, Pete Rock, Kanye and such: http://noisey.vice.com/blog/gene-brown-is-the-guy-who-finds-the-rare-samples-for-all-your-favorite-hip-hop-songs
  7. New J DIlla album, The Diary

haven't heard a good posthumous Dilla project since that De La Soul record. Will hold out hope for this, though, cause friends with this bootleg have been telling me for years that it's dope.
  8. kanye / madlib

"acceptable hip-hop" huh? You the gatekeeper to the culture?
  9. Madlib feature in the New Yorker

When Kanye's "No More Parties in L.A." dropped, I hoped it would give me a chance to interview 'Lib finally. No dice. ST shut down even the possibility of talking with him with a quickness. I think the same thing happened here—this isn't a Q&A—but the writer still pulls off a pretty interesting feature. A lot of stuff most of y'all probably already know, but still cool to see him get more shine: http://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2016/02/08/the-waves-critic-at-large-hilton-als
  10. kanye / madlib

Don't forget this also means Madlib has produced for Kendrick Lamar...
  11. FruityLoops story for Noisey

  12. FruityLoops story for Noisey

Hey guys, thought you might like a feature story I just wrote on FruityLoops for Noisey. Got to talk Soulja Boy, 9th Wonder, Sonny Digital and Jhalil Beats among others. Also got to speak with the program's mysterious creator. Give it a read if you have a spare 10! http://noisey.vice.com/blog/fruity-loops-fl-studio-program-used-to-create-trap-music-sound
  13. Y'all up on Wiki and Ratking? Living in New York, I really respect what they do and root for them. Wiki kind of sounds like Geechi from Camp Lo. Madlib produced the opener; not sure if it's a loosie from a beat tape or something he exclusively made for him.
  14. Vince Staples

Big ol' shame that Summertime '06 sold so few copies when it dropped (in the 10k range, I heard). How did Def Jam not utilize this dude's charisma more in the marketing? He's been doing these viral one-offs with magazines lately that are hilarious: http://www.gq.com/story/vince-staples-gq-men-of-the-year-2015?mbid=social_twitter
