Man, it was tough narrowing down a top 3 this week. I was pretty certain about my pick for 1st place but I struggled to choose two for 2nd and 3rd place. Olos - Wasn't sure about that sample at the beginning but then it unfolds into pure dopeness DJ Agent M - Kept going back for more listens. Really like the slick filtered sound DJ Cut EFX - Another well produced piece! Big fan of this style 4th Place: Fat Von Free Gait Nella Psychedelic Schizophrenic Kokosovyj Matras (Great use of the rule!) C1gart Ruedenz Dez Nyce Jakal Great fun, as always. Thanks to those for the feedback. & Thanks to everyone for providing me with such a dope soundtrack for the week!

    STBB #601 - Japan, optional extreme-production rule

Had fun working with these rules. Every single sample I used for this track is Japanese, for 100% authenticity! I used the provided sample by Masayoshi Takanaka as the main part of my track. Props to Lonius for selecting this song! Additional work: All drum hits sampled from 70's Japanese Jazz-Funk/Jazz-Fusion songs by Hiroshi Fukumura, Akira Ishikawa & Kunihiko Murai I sampled the Shamisen from 'In Fiesta' by Hideo Shiraki - Chopped it up and reformed/reconstructed it I added a Fender Rhodes sample from 'Gentle Wave' by Jiro Inagaki & Soul Media - Gave it some effects etc Also added a synth sample from 'Smooch' by The Players - Lowered the lows to only leave the highs and added effects Threw-in a few fun-facts about Japan... Hope you enjoy

We are among some very skilful beat makers. Every entry was dope 1- Gabriel Plotkin (Bottle-O-Water) - Stood out to me right from the start 2- Gait - An all-round good track 3- Beatfux - Very catchy towards the end Thanks to everyone for the much valued feedback

Used both samples - The George Theodosiadis sample is the main drive, with the Onyx Collective sample in parts. I used the 'silence' concept in the intro but had to add a blackmoon acapella for the main part as it sounded quite bare without raps. Hope you dig!

Ah man! I just noticed there's no entry by Fat Von this week. I was looking forward to seeing if he could take it 3 weeks running! Surely that would be a record? I hope he gets to hear this week's entries

    STBB 599 Dark Trip Hop

Made 'something' (not sure what) out of samples 1, 2 & 7. Added samples from Poltergeist 2 & 3 at the beginning and end of the track. Used outside drums and programmed them weirdly as an attempt to make something that I do not understand....Trip Hop. I still don't really know what it is to be honest. Had fun, regardless!

buttaslick: 1. Granny David: that style you have captures everything this battle was based on and so you know I started here at beat battle 54 when I first started making beats. - Thanks mate, I really value your words and appreciation. I heard of this beatbattle back in 2009 and almost got involved then, as I'd been producing for about 10 years at that point. But one thing went to another and before I knew it I regrettably parted with my MPC. I've been using Acid Pro 6.0 since 2011 but I could never recreate that style or sound that MPC's have, so I never felt confident entering these beatbattles. ...9 years on, I suddenly thought, fuck it! - I've entered 6 weeks in a row now and have enjoyed every aspect of the competition. It now gives me some purpose for making beats! Peace
