Good question. I have been working away just using the 1 I like. Was going to stop for the evening now anyway so i'll check if it's all 3 needed before I restart tomorrow.

Nice! I love the look of it. I need another hardware synth like I need a hole in the head though! Already got 10, one being a Moog SubPhatty. I've hardly been using them this year though. I used them loads in previous years but i've been far more sample flip based this year. Depending on what this week's comp is like i'm well keen to get some synth action down for STBB603 though. Think i'll go and have a jam now to warm up...

It's a heavy hitter for sure. 😎 Here's a view only link to the weekly scorecards if anyone wants to have a look. πŸ‘ο»Ώο»Ώ Edit: I see from old threads Bleep has been competing for a while so not a new challenger after all! I didn't see any on his SC so assumed he was new.

Na man, that's just part of your head fuckin' with you. I bet pretty much all us have thought/think that same thing at times, and i've also heard top top producers say it on numerous occasions. In fact, most creative people say it at one point or another about their work. It's totally normal bro. Don't take plays and feedback as any measure of how good your stuff is. Both are a VERY hard to generate for the VAST majority of beat makers, and artists in general struggle to be heard/seen, as there is just SO much content out there. Hit me up on PM if you want to hear about my ideas about development as a beat maker/artist and underpinning mindsets for how to best go forward. We have a great supportive community here and I know i'm happy to help any brother out who's having a moment of negativity. πŸ‘

flobama - Real deal head nodder, good structure, heavy all round, sounds great. Win! defMute - On point vibe as always, loved the bass esp, and really liked the heavy bitcrushed processing. noyer - Great drums and nice chops. Made me smile. Happy little beat.

Wow what a week. I reckon this is my best track to date! 😎 Thanks very much to slanteyez for providing the ace samples and I liked the obscure rule. I must have listened to about 100 old cereal adverts before I found one from the 50s talking about the benefits of Special K that was perfect for the bonkers beat I made. πŸ˜„ I used both samples extensively and there were more than enough great chops in them so I didn't need to add any other instrumentation other than very occasional background strings. I really enjoyed jumping between the two samples back and forth with one choking the other. Made for some great counterplay and crazy creative chops.

JAKAL has decided just to run with the rules/samples you posted for #602 which was nice of him. 😎 (although he had already started! ☺️) As long as everyone is happy it's all good.

Ah shit, sorry guys!!! Not sure how I managed to mess this one up!! 😏 I've just check it 3 times and i'm getting 22 for slanteyez rather than 21, but still JAKAL was in fact the clear winner. Well done Jakal then. Slanteyez, really sorry man.

One other point, @c1gart, you can't vote for two different tracks with one vote i'm afraid. Please choose DJ Cut-EFX or NellaGoodFella as your #3 vote please. ☺️ It doesn't make any difference to the top 3 thankfully so again, no biggie. Here's a view only link to the weekly scorecards if anyone wants to have a look. πŸ‘ο»Ώο»Ώ Well done all! Props.

    STBB #601 - Japan, optional extreme-production rule

Hey man. About RX950; i've been using it on a load of parts for months, as it's great, but I found it wasn't always that great on tracks with low end as it could make them a bit phasey. I've replaced it for low end parts with TAL-Dac, which sounds even better IMO and loses none of that low end weight! (Plus as lots more control) RX950 still has its merits though, such as the instant mojo and great LP filter, so i'm using a combo of the two these days. Don't sleep on GoodHertz Vulf Compressor either if you are looking for classic hip hop hardware emu's. It emulates Vinyl Compression mode from the SP-303, but gives so much more control.

Oh wow I'd say this is the best track i've ever made! ☺️ I've used the provided sample for the main melodic chops and pads, and i've integrated a Japanese 90s rap track, which is super lofi. So i've went between that super 90s lofi hip hop record sound and the fat spacious lofi hip hop sound of today, so i'd say that met the unusual processing rule. 😎 I've also used a sample from a Japanese 50s movie for the intro and vox chops, and I got a friend to play the amazing live bass, I played rhodes part, and I of course played the drums and layered in some FX, and processed the hell out of it all to pull it all together to the vibe I wanted.

[STBB #600 RESULT] 1. Lonius 59 2. Γ‰lan Vital 38 3. Beatfux 37 After strong starts for Γ‰lan Vital and Beatfux, Lonius ripped into the lead with 10 first place votes and he's won STBB #600 with a massive 59 points. Not sure what the record is but I know it's the most points scored since i've been here. Well done Lonius. Well deserved! ☺️ Here's a view only link to the scorecard and full leaderboard if anyone wants to have a look. πŸ‘ο»Ώο»Ώ Good to see a few new names in the top 10 this week. (New to me anyway, some of them may just be back competing after an extended break).

Agreed re the silence rule. There were only a few tracks that I really noticed creative use of silence, with Lonius's being the most creative and well implemented by a good margin IMO. I know I like to try and vote based on how well the rules were adhered to along with how much I like a track in general, and i'm sure i'm not the only one here. Creative use of silence is challenging one to implement other than the tried and tested 1 beat silences that hundreds of tracks have used in the past, or stutter FX which I know I like, but often aren't massively creative (depends how they are done), so it takes a very skilled beatmaker to do what Lonius did IMO. I know what you mean about producers always twiddling knobs or fingering pads, and I know i'm sometimes bad for it! 'Less is more' is often good advice and I know i'm trying to be better at keeping tracks leaner and letting what's not there be almost as important as what is.

Lonius - Dope beat in general, but mad props for being the most creative with this weeks special rule! ☺️ :.NeLLa.Good.FeLLa.: - Weird ass beat bro, but I dig. 😎 Kowalzki - First half beat is real smooth. πŸ‘ Shouts to FVF, enzoeyeris, SONIC and DJ AGENT M as well. Good work.

Gah, I had a system crash when working on my submission that i've only just recovered from 6 hours later, so I now don't have time to finish it before the deadline. 😏 I was only a couple of hours off finishing it as well. Oh well, 80% of the track can totally be used for another track so no major loss.

    Submit your favourite STBB tracks

Joa had the great idea of us creating playlists of our favourite STBB tracks, and I suggested putting it in its own topic, as it would make a good topic for people visiting the forum to check out a selection of choice submissions without having to do too much digging. Plus I'd also love to check out what others who have been here far longer than me are rating as i'm keen to hear older stuff, but digging through ~30 tracks from each weeks vote playlists would take an age! I know there is already a playlist that has each weeks winner, but let's feel some love for more some of the many other great tracks you guys are making. 😎
