dope week, loved the challenge! 1. Jay Mykal (2 beastly beats are kind of unfair though) 2. elan vital (4 beats is even more unfair.... but if all 4 are dope ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ ) 3. THE HOME OF DOPE BEATS! (welcome back !!! ill beat!) (selfrecorded vocals are okay this week, right?) beantangerine (smoooth) fivepee (hat last part is cool af!) kowalzki (beautiful dirty boom bap spoken word shizzle) brogrimm (that vibe... collabo sometime? ) Butta Slick (catchy simpler loop is nice!) JoaGymshoe (that must have been some killer workflow as fast as you uploaded!) + many more! bigups to all of you!!
  5. STBBeatles #578

Sick Challenge Joa, Congratz FVF! Met up with Xavier (s/o) who is an expert on Beatles music listened and searched for tunes we could use for drums first . Once we had a drum set together we switched focus to special soundscapes and loops and started playing around. Thankfully Beatles records were hard-panned quite often, so we could isolate a lot of sounds by panning or just using mids/sides. We tried to turn the Beatles into something entirely different (boom bap-ish, as requested) as best as we could. I did not flip the hell out of that last part (I loved the Idea, but way too easy) as the Beastie Boys already made the best out of that sample imo. Below you can find the sources, hope I didn’t forget anything enjoy DRUMS Kick The End (0:27), What You’re Doing (0:04) Snares Free As a Bird (0:00), Two of Us (1:31) Crash Heater Skelter (4:20+) Hihat Mister Please (0:00) Tom The End (0:09) Shaker You Know My Name (Look Up the Number) (2:32) pitched Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (0:04) Bongo You Know My Name (Look Up the Number) (3:00) Vocalshots You Know My Name (Look Up the Number) end A Day In A Life (2:55) „SYNTHS“&Samples (Synths = chromatically pitched samples) Hook Synth A Day in A Life (2:16) Plucked Flute Synth You Know My Name (Look Up the Number) (3:05) Sie Liebt Dich (in the end somewhere) Hook Sample 2 Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (start) looped and panned Lead Synth & Intro Sun King (0:53) Bridge Swells The Continuing Story Of Bungalow Bill (somewhere at start) 2nd Chorus Synth Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds (0:01) „BASS“ Samples (sometimes filtered, sometimes not) A Day in A Life 2:16, pitched low You Know My Name (Look Up the Number) (~3:00) A Day In A Life (start) Brass Swells Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (1:13) The hardest challenge for me was to get the bass with at least some nice overtones working (did not want to filter too much).. Until veeeeery late in the battle I only used the various versions (masters) but then I remembered. … had some Beatles-.mogg files on the hard drive. Extracted The Bass and Vocal Track in 1 frickin' minute…. the time I spent looking for solo bass hits… not even talking about the drums. (oh damn, all could have been much easier.) We only used this approach for the chorus bassline (A Day In A Life, beginning) & Bridge Vocals (same, 2:55+)

... maybeits time to switch to another platform ... SoundCloud just locked my comment feature, after making ~20 comments on you ppl's tracks I do this every friday since months, if not years, WHATS THE PROBLEM NOW??? (as seen in the screenshot "wtf.png" below, unfortunately only in german) (Ps: ich habe die im Text erwähnte "warnende" Nachricht übrigens weder bekommen, noch bestätigt...) At the same time I am getting followed by tons of "legit promotion agencies" how not to manage your "community", best example: Soundcloud. Vote: 1. JoaGymshoe incredible one man band action going on over there in R'dam :O close 2nd. JAKAL. thats a nice journey you're taking us on! also close 3. Jay Mykal Honorable mentions: [KappnEffect] & Donut Producer sick but too short in direct comparison to the other, longer contestants. brogrimm, beantangerine, Dave Powell, FVF, Kongchain and many more!
  9. STBB #577

This was fun! congrats Jay! Had a bit of a shock moment when I re-read - thought there were no synths allowed, luckily thats not the case! synth & keys & bass (all Korg Minilogue) drums and everything else were done in Live10 samples used besides the provided: 1__2__3__4__ hope you enjoy!

on the other side, I found myself in a position very often where there are two very close contestants, of which both I considered worth winning somehow... Imo, the present form is fairer, meaning its less "the winner takes it all"-like. (first place 5pts, second 3pts, 3rd 1pt). Yes its more work, but since there is a very focused team of about 5 ppl, including myself, doing all the work (well basically we fill in the automated sheet linked after each battle), whats the problem? Disclaimer: This week was VERY complicated for the team of vote counters, as we had a lot of extra notes in the sheet (bc of the many disq. entries.) Ad next battle: I'd have a ruleset ready, however my samples got lost so it'll take me a while as well..

Thats actually not correct. Since I started the sheet (and appearantly made two rows for Jay, sorry 'bout that :/) I felt it was necessary to re-check... went through the thread twice, and it looks like Guen was right in the first place. Jay got confirmed 38 pts - congrats! followed by Lokal's confirmed 37pts link: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1RibvtFPti9p-cNOpVY2Meu2Wm_GgcXt9XLc30Oj5PhQ/edit?usp=sharing i hope its not too late for the clarification?

1 HUNGRYMAN 2. JayMykal 3. Soul-Jutsu (2/3 is nuff 4 me) Mentions: JoaGymshoe, l o k a l, Morty69, Flipooster, and many more! My comment as a vote-counter: guuuuuuuys, I never experienced a week with soo many disqualified entries! :/ (my mono switch can't be convinced, however there is some room considering the snare/rimshot rule) To avoid any later discussions (list may not be complete): Disqualified because stereo: JoeMoDo Boa, Mhmory, Cosimoz, FIVEPEE, G.F.Nella Disqualified because imo rimshot/snare was used: (what do you ppl think?) BAVNZ I'm not sure about: DoktorCross: isn't that a rimshot?, Same goes for SuperSen, and DefMute Anyways: since @l o k a l is far ahead atm, that might not be important at all ...
  13. this could easily be my anti-tune. hesitated to upload first, but here it is. only had very limited time again

  22. STBB#567

Thx, but please put it in the track title, come on man, you gotta know the fineprint by heart now ;)...
  23. STBB#567

... Thx Erb. Please just mark it as a non-entry bc of the acapella too...
  24. STBB#567

quick jam with basic chops, but a good overall vibe
  25. STBB#567

Don't do that, thats a stupid thing to do. Your Ideas+Input are just as important as anyone else's and I appreciate your Input! + ....I don't think Joa meant any offense at all. But I wanna emphasize his point about keeping the "duties" to a minimum, just like he wrote - the more obligation, the more problems we have if it doesn't work. (somebody forgets, moves on e.g...) because there are no (real)consequences and when the love is missing (or time), people tend to give less fucks.
